Film made from image stimulus evaluation
For this film-making task we were made to create a film that represents an image that we were given.
My image was a large tree, and I subsequently wanted to explore the connotations that surround this such as nature, growth and natural beauty. For this piece I wanted to create a juxtaposition between the urban world and the natural world, hence the reasoning for my inclusion of repeated high angle shots showing increasing piles of waste surrounding a tree. These same high angle shots show the domination of consumerism and it's impact on our surrounding world. The beginning of my film captivates the beauty of nature and how this beauty can resonate when it isn't being corrupted. As the film progresses harsh shots skateboard wheels are used to emphasise man's intervention of the natural world, the wheel is a man-made creation. Through editing I have increased the volume of these shots to comment on the harshness of man's influence on nature. Furthermore as the sequences progresses I used various shots of decaying urban life such as abandoned sections of buildings. I used editing to reverse these shots to imply that the damage done to nature can be reversed and it is not too late to change the way we treat our planet. I also used sound to create this imagery of sadness and damage through my music and sound effect choice. Returning to cinematography I used multiple close up shots of plant life the complex designs of nature and how all life is perfectly crafted. Through cinematography I attempted to create a link between the intricacy of nature and the similar intricacy of man-made structures.
